How does GridTrade work?

GridTrade automatically earns revenue from your battery by trading energy directly in the energy market (as opposed to through your supplier's tariff). When electricity is cheap (or free), it charges; when prices are high or the grid needs support, it sells electricity back to the market. Everything is managed for you, and you earn revenue while your battery continues to serve your site as normal.

Do I need to change my energy provider?

No. GridTrade unlocks additional revenue without needing to change your existing import or export providers.

Is my property eligible for GridTrade?

Your property must have a half-hourly settled meter (profile class = 00). If you are unsure, we can check this on your bills.

What kind of battery systems are compatible?

GridTrade is compatible with all major battery and inverter brands including Solis, Huawei, Sigenergy, Pylontech, SolarEdge, Goodwe and more. We are constantly expanding compatibility - contact us to confirm compatibility with your specific system.

How much can I earn?

Earnings vary based on your battery capacity, local energy markets, and usage patterns. Our customers typically see a return on their battery investment within 3 years.

How does GridTrade control my energy storage system?

GridVolt will provide our Energy Gateway, which is a small device which plugs into your inverter via ethernet. The gateway monitors your energy usage and notifies our servers of any trading capacity. When profitable trades are identified, the gateway will control your inverters to buy or sell energy in the market.

Which markets does GridTrade operate in?

GridTrade is currently live in the UK wholesale energy market, balancing market & local constraint market.

How I get paid for my trades?

GridVolt issues a simple statement every month and pays out for your trades. GridTrade monitors your Elexon meter data and uses this to settle trades

Is there a minimum battery size required?

We recommend a minimum battery capacity of 100kWh for optimal trading performance, though we can work with smaller systems depending on your location.

I am based outside GB, can I earn from GridTrade?

GridTrade is currently available in the GB energy market. We are seeking to expand our offering to additional regions soon. Customers outside GB can still cut their bills through GridVolt\'s AI powered energy optimisation.
