The responsibility depends on the GridTrade agreement, the equipment contracts and what actually caused the missed trade. Do not promise the client that the installer will be able to trace the fault or calculate the loss. In practice, GridVolt investigates missed or reduced trades using Energy Gateway logs, inverter or battery data, site communications records and half-hourly meter data, where it has access to them.
The installer’s job is to make sure the client knows who answers each type of fault or support call before handover. The client should know who supports the battery, inverter, controller, site communications and trading service, and who to contact if the battery stops receiving or following trading instructions.
Do not try to diagnose the trade yourself
A missed trade can happen for several reasons. The battery may have been unavailable, the site’s import or export limit may have stopped the trade, the client may have changed the operating mode, the inverter may have rejected a command or the trading service may not have sent a trade instruction.
That does not mean the installer should try to trace the instruction through every part of the system. Most installers and asset owners will not have access to the trading platform, controller logs and settlement data needed to work out exactly what happened.
If a client asks why a trade was missed, the practical answer is to raise it through the GridTrade support route. GridVolt can check the relevant logs, meter readings, inverter or battery data and communications records and confirm what caused the missed or reduced trade, where the records show this. The problem may have come from the trading service, the controller, the battery or inverter, the site communications, the connection limits or client action.
A controller has not failed just because it blocks a trade. It should not follow an instruction that would breach the battery reserve, inverter rating, warranty limit, site import or export limit, or any agreed client rule.
Agree the support split before handover
Before commissioning, make sure the GridTrade agreement and equipment contracts explain:
- who supports the Energy Gateway
- who supports the battery and inverter
- who manages the router, SIM and site network
- what makes the battery unavailable for trading
- how planned downtime should be reported
- what happens if the customer changes the battery mode or blocks remote control
- who investigates a missed or reduced trade
- whether any service credit, compensation or liability limit applies
- how disputed trading performance will be handled
The market-facing trading party remains responsible for the trade it places. The customer and equipment contracts then decide what happens if software, hardware, communications, connection limits or customer action caused the missed response.
For the proposal, keep this simple. Do not offer a fault-tracing process the installer cannot deliver. Say that GridVolt manages and investigates GridTrade performance through its own system data, while the installer’s responsibility is limited to the installation, equipment and support scope agreed in the contract.
